I'm passionate about the degree show
Current Happenings and Things to Do!
- Having worked with Darrel, Ian, Tom and Trev throughout the last half of our time at Chelsea, we hope to continue our fledgling collaboration - to what end we don't know yet, but the experience so far has been most stimulating, engaging and invaluable. Visit our new wiki workspace!
- No rest for the wicked - projects are still on going and need to be clarified, tidied up, continued etc.
- - "Admin Show" need to keep up the momentum in the relationships built up between admin and students.
- - "IDEALondon" although the time at the ICA has come to an end, involvement in their publication could be interesting.
- - "First Years" linked to the IDEALondon project, reviwe and analysis of pigeon holes and contents - 'out come' of project - first years bbq before the summers out!
- - "Raw Canvas" review would be useful - do we want to continue relations with these groups?
- - "Education" Millbank Primary and other schools are still in contact, do we still want to establish links with them towards the college? - other than through young at art.
- - "Open congress" i personally haven't been that active within this area, would be good to spend some time on it!
- - "Chelsea" - using chelsea as a base of operations or as an interesting place to situate ourselves in the future - talk of setting up a new 'pathway'??? - possible through CETL funding?
- Renata, a graduate textiles has been in touch in seeing whether or not establishing some kind of graduate and soon to be graduate network is possible... more to come.... more to see...
Previous Projects
- The Degree Show - doomed to failiure from the start! Don't get me wrong, i'm not usually so pesimistic, however the degree show seems an entity riddled with inescapable pitfalls. Even in our realisation of the problems, it seems a shame to not be part of the degree show (in a way one as a student of the college can never be not part of the final show, an absence is also recorded), aswell as invovlment being a way of opening a dialogue or critical anlaysis into the show itself and relationships surrounding it. Particualrly in reference to current ideals gleamed from the creation of the founding principles, a collaborative practice and the prevalance of individualistic practices at chelsea, can we make something interesting, challenging, relevant and true to itself,'uncompromised'? Current discusions concerning our ideas for the Degree Show between all five of us can be viewed here.
- I.D.E.A.London - Ian and Darrel were invited to particpate at a Goldsmiths MA curatorial 'squat' of the ICA. Interest has mainly been directed towards artist and art realted organisations. The invitation has subsequently being extended to the other members of our collaborative 5, Tom, Trevor, and myself. This invitation has now been extended further, from us (the collaborative 5) to our first year helpers!
- EAST 05 - EAST 05 is an open competition that we (Darrel, Trevor, Ian, Tom and I) entered but were unsuccessful in our application, although we still may become involved with EAST through an accepted application that has asked to work with applicants who were unsuccessful. We had proposed a creative and collaborative 'educational programme' based upon a set of founding principles, potentially using EAST as an appropriate platform for promoting and involving interested parties within it, however the 'educational programme' was and is intended to be an on-going project, some ideas of which we hope to bring to the Degree Show.
- Tom and Wei - At the moment Tom and I are confused... the move to Millbank has given us a lot more to think about, so we've decided to create a page to get our ideas out and about. Read, slate, steal, ignore, suggest, contribute...
- MAKE:space - Last term's major collaborative project with Tom Neill, a modular platform for collaborative practices situated on top of the vacant Henry Moore Plinth - check out the website.
- Wei and Jon - Online chess! if anyone else fancies a game start here.
- Film Club - something I set up back at Manresa Road with Tom and Luke. Having fully fledged and moved to it's new home in the Millbank lecture theatre we have passed the film club on to an enthusiastic group of first years, so hopefully people might now get to see some decent films, the frist term has been encouraging, every friday, 5.00pm, see you there!
