Open-ended Instructions For The Documentary Wiki Group

From Chelsea Wiki

Here are some instuctions!

In order to edit pages on the Chelsea Wiki now people will need to create an account.

You can do this by going on to the main page at http://chelseawiki.org/index.php/Main_Page.

On the top right hand corner you will find the link which will give you the option of either logging into a current account or to create an account.

There are several ways to edit. You can edit the whole entire page by clicking on the edit button which is at the top of the page. Sometimes on existing pages you can also have the option to click and edit individual subsections. The edit button will usually be found on the right hand side of the title of a particular subsection.

There are several basic functions you can do on the wiki.

1. You can add or extend the text of a page. You can click edit, a page will appear and you can write the text. To finalize the change there is a button near the bottom which says 'save page'. Do not be too worried about making mistakes because things can be reversed and corrected very easily.

Sometimes the pages are arranged into headings, sections, subsections, etc. To create a heading and to identify headings in the edit page. They will appear inbetween combinations using this symbol = .

For example to create a new heading you type in the edit page -

The Title of the New Heading

a subsection will appear like this - ===Title of the New or Current Subsection=== You can alter the heading by changing the text in the middle of the 'code'

Additionally to create a bullet point. An asterix sign is used for the position of the bullet point followed by the texts For example - *Documentary

  • Future
  • Memories

For more options on how to use other types of headings.. http://chelseawiki.org/index.php/Help:Editing

2. As well as adding text you can add weblinks from other web pages on the internet To do this copy and paste your weblink onto this code into the edit page

A description of the weblink

for example

[| Making Documentary ] The text on the right hand side will appear in blue. If you click on the button it will direct you to the link on the left.

When you save the link on the page you will have to answer a simple maths question. This is a precautionary to stop people spamming and putting in junk.

3. The edit function which we will be using to share ideas and present proposals is the Create Page function. We are contributing proposals and idea under the section ' Proposals and Ideas' in the Making Documentary page.

The code to create a page is

The Name of the New Page

The name of your title will have to be a little specific as the name might already be taken and so the heading will link to that site rather than creating a new page.

After you have saved the page. The heading if it is a newly created page should appear as a red heading. To edit the page you have created. Click on the red heading. It will appear as a blank page. Click edit and share your proposal/idea!

You can copy the codes I have provided in this email and paste into the edit page. All you need to do is change what is in the middle of the code.

Also if you like the layout or colour of a heading of a page on the wiki. You can use the code for your page by copying and pasting the code they have used on their page if that makes sense (?!)

Here are some useful links other wise email me if there is a problem http://chelseawiki.org/index.php/Help:Contents

Hope this was not too complicated maybe you could condense it a little!
