Chelsea Special Event: 20.04.05

The ‘Chelsea Event’ on the 20th April seemed to be hyped as quite an important event, however, very little discussion seems to have resulted from it (at least not which has surfaced on this site). I was just wondering if anybody had any views about the night/any images to contribute, etc?
Some thoughts/irritations
- Very few people knew about the possibility of proposing events for funding before the Easter break; maybe this is symptomatic of the general lack of communication within college, however, even channels such as email and blackboard were not used until a couple of days before the official deadline.
- Money never seems available to help students realise ambitious projects which they have spent a great deal of time developing. However, money was given out quite indiscriminately to the 40 projects proposed for this event (it seems around an average £100 each).
- The reason given for this – and why it was such a great thing about which students should be nothing but happy – was that it was University, rather than College, money. The idea that the college can be strapped for cash and the university rolling in it worries me a bit.
- It really was for the ‘VIPs’, the performances being totally out of bounds for students.
- The fact that a protest which was aimed against several aspects of the running of the college found its way onto maps informing guests of the location of events. I am not sure if I thinks this is good, bad or just funny – but possibly interesting
I must have been in a bad mood on the day – maybe due to not getting my work to as developed a state as I wanted – but I found it fairly pathetic and depressing. Then again, it was an official success. What do other people think?
